“A distinção entre passado, presente e futuro é apenas uma ilusão teimosamente persistente.” A frase é atribuída a Albert Einstein e ele referia-se, é claro, ao Tempo físico, quantificável e mensurável, e não ao Tempo intangível e filosófico, percebido como o campo das nossas vivências. Henri Bergson, contemporâneo de Einstein, defendia uma ideia completamente diferente, em que o futuro e o presente não existem, em que só há o passado. E em que somos, a cada momento, o resultado das vivências passadas. Se assim for, então é indissociável pensarmos na enorme plasticidade da Memória. A tal que nos prega partidas, que umas vezes esconde e outras revela, que sobrepõe, mistura e chega mesmo a alterar as recordações que guardámos. Como se fossemos feitos de múltiplos planos que se sobrepõem, em que as impressões do que sentimos se intercalam e se vão modelando com o passar do Tempo e que dependem do estado emocional em que as evocamos​ Justapor cinquenta e um desenhos e duas instalações que evocam noções tão distintas sobre o mesmo assunto não é inocente. Não é uma competição entre teorias de diferentes correntes de pensamento porque, há luz desta exposição, todas são verdadeiras, mesmo que se contradigam. Todas são verdadeiras, exatamente porque todas coexistem no Tempo. O fascínio por estas matérias foi o fio condutor para as interpretações plásticas em que trabalhei nos últimos meses e que resultaram na seleção de trabalhos que agora exponho com o intuito, talvez um pouco provocatório, de nos tocar no ombro, mesmo que ao de leve, pedindo uma reflexão que perdure para lá da visita à exposição, que saia connosco e nos deixe a pensar… ​​Afinal o que significa, para cada um de nós, isso do Tempo e da Memória?.​ 

“The distinction between past, present and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion.” The phrase is attributed to Albert Einstein and he was referring, of course, to physical, quantifiable and measurable Time, and not to intangible and philosophical Time, perceived as the field of our experiences. However, Henri Bergson, Einstein's contemporary, defended a completely different idea, in which the future and the present do not exist, in which there is only the past. And in which we are, at every moment, the result of past experiences. If this is the case, then it is inseparable to think about the enormous plasticity of Memory. The kind that plays tricks on us, sometimes hiding and sometimes revealing, overlapping, mixing and even altering the memories we have stored. As if we were made up of multiple overlapping planes, in which the impressions of what we feel intertwine and are shaped over time, depending on the emotional state in which we evoke them. Juxtaposing fifty-one drawings and two installations that evoke such distinct notions on the same subject is not innocent. It is not a competition between theories from different schools of thought because, in the light of this exhibition, they are all true, even if they contradict each other. They are all true precisely because they all coexist in time. My fascination with these subjects has been the guiding thread for the artistic interpretations I have been working on over the last few months, resulting in the selection of works that I am now exhibiting with the perhaps somewhat provocative aim of tapping us on the shoulder, even if only lightly, asking us to reflect beyond our visit to the exhibition, to take our thoughts with us and leave us pondering... After all, what does Time and Memory mean to each of us?
